DevOps Engineer

Locations – Crawley, Cheadle, Reading, Glasgow, Belfast, Templecombe, Bristol, Doncaster, Ebbw Vale (With Flexible Hybrid/Remote Working)

The Role

Thales is transforming to a cloud-operating environment. In this new role, you’ll be helping to build and support a digital platform within the UK Digital Competence Centre (Best-In-Class), shaping the tools and processes for our development teams moving into DevSecOps ways of working.

As a DevOps Engineer, you will work as part of an agile development team, helping to build secure and resilient application infrastructure providing an outstanding experience for our customers and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build industry leading cloud-based infrastructure on Azure
  • Using modern DevSecOps practices, create and manage secure, low maintenance environments in cloud
  • Create and maintain development tools to enable effective and efficient CI/CD pipelines
  • Help shape and grow cloud estate, with no legacy systems to support
  • Automate and improve development and release process
  • Support release and production environment where necessary

Maintaining the technical solution for infrastructure 

  • Define and develop the means so that products are correctly deployed respecting established rules. 
  • Support delivery teams with automated tools and scripts to provision infrastructure resources (compute, network & storage) in a simple and efficient manner. 

Securing the platform infrastructure 

  • Understand the functional context of the product up to the point of challenging functional decisions 
  • Ensure that operational best practices (supervision/monitoring, backups, archives, log management) are implemented. 
  • Ensure the Squad is informed and aware of operational constraints, and if required train the team on those topics. 
  • Ensuring Security best practises are being upheld
  • Educate and communicate with the wider Thales UK community

Experience Required

We recruit DevOps Engineers and Managers at many levels so we would be very interested to hear from you regardless of your length of experience.

  • Active interest in the cloud operating environment; able to show that you have undertaken self-development in this discipline
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of cloud infrastructure as a service and cloud platform as a service
  • Active ability and interest in scripting languages
  • Strong experience with Cloud infrastructure on Azure
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or Ansible
  • Experience with build and CI/CD tools and pipelines
  • Exposure to application development.
  • Good understanding of Cloud design patterns and have used them solve to complex problems
