Cloud Engineer Contract – Statement of Work

Outside IR35 (confirmed by Government website employment check)

Date: 20th March 2025

Term: 6 months term

Agreed day rate: £500 pd +VAT

Who we are looking for

A Cloud Platform Engineer, who will help to set up our Google Cloud environments from scratch.  You will have a passion for working on innovative initiatives and will make an immediate impact to the Business by bringing your own experience to a challenging but vibrant environment.  By training and developing the existing team members, you will leave a lasting legacy at Billing Finance.

Your Role:

  • Support the build and maintenance of Cloud platforms (predominately GCP)
  • Taking accountability for the end-to-end delivery of public cloud pathfinder initiatives.
  • Work across continuous integration, development, build, and deployment using automation and cloud technologies to support the growth of DevOps tooling
  • Build automation jobs for CI/CD development, build, and deployment of applications on Cloud.
  • Support the build and maintenance of Cloud platforms and manage complex infrastructure environments.
  • Collaborate across the team and our SaaS providers to identify improvements and drive them to resolution using cutting-edge CI/CD technologies.
  • Support test environments, troubleshoot issues, and provide seamless DevOps delivery of infrastructure changes from development through to production.
  • Working with and influencing others to advocate and lead technical aspects of our journey to the public cloud.
  • Working with the team to embed knowledge and train existing team members so that they can continue the operational running of our cloud infrastructure.
  • Supporting and consulting with stakeholders.
  • Driving engineering excellence by fostering modern engineering

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience deploying and managing GCP infrastructure using Terraform or similar infrastructure as code services.
  • A strong understanding of managing GCP security and secrets and applying best practices in Public Cloud security.
  • Demonstrable experience deploying virtual machines in a Public Cloud environment as well as deploying Docker containers to Kubernetes clusters.
  • A good understanding of CI/CD, preferably using GitHub Actions.
  • Confident with YAML, Python and Shell Scripting
  • Monitoring skills for both performance monitoring and cost monitoring.
  • Practical understanding of financial management in the cloud and FinOps concepts.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of micro-service architecture and APIs
  • Experience with cloud data warehouses, preferably with Google BigQuery
  • Experience with Active Directory (AD) Authentication and Integration
  • Experience of monitoring tools such as Splunk and Datadog
  • Understanding of code quality & security gates (e.g., Sonarqube)
  • Azure Cloud experience
